Tempest

I just got Tempest, the next novel in the latest Star Wars trilogy. I though I'd record some of my reactions to it as I go.

• Great to hear of the return of the shoto. When I read Luke decided to break it out again, I couldn't believe it. He still had it after all these years? And it has never been used again? But where did he keep it? It must not have been on Yavin IV when the Vong invaded or he would have lost it. Hmm... I don't yet know if it will be used in a duel in this book, but it's highly likely.
• The family sparring match. I loved that. That Luke could defeat his son without igniting his lightsaber - sweet! And then, not even moving his feet? Awesome!
• Aurra Sing! Shit, I didn't recognise her at first. The nickname "Nashtah" was cool as I was familiar with it from working on the Tunroth article, but was unaware of its connection to her. The line that gave it away, though, was the bit about enjoying killing Jedi! Still hasn't been confirmed yet, but I'm sure it will be her.
• Reading Nek Bwua'tu discuss the triange between Corellia, Bothawui and Nal Hutta with Jaina Solo made me dig out my laminated galaxy map from the Fact Files to ckeck what he was talking about. Sure enough, there was the triangle.
  

Identify this alien...

I found this image in Heroes and Rogues. It looks to me like it could be either a Utai or an Ongree, a nice retcon for either of the species.

In the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Kyle Katarn went searching for clues about the Sith.
He has yet to return.

In response, Jan Ors and Jedi Master Mara Jade Skywalker have put together a crack team of heroes consisting of Alpha Blue agents and Jedi Knights to find Kyle. Eventually heading out into the region called the Cloak of the Sith, the heroes find Kyle held captive by the cyborg Jedi Daye Azur-Jamin, who has been twisted to the Dark Side by an evil Force-user. The heroes must free Kyle and attempt to turn Azur-Jamin back to the light.

Whether they succeed or are instead forced to kill him, the cyborg reveals information that is truly shocking: There is a dangerous Force-strong Yuuzhan Vong loose in the galaxy, and judging from her powers, it is clear that she has a master . . .
